You receive a "This record is read-only in Microsoft CRM" error message when you try to update a Microsoft CRM activity task in Outlook 2003 
 

SYMPTOMS

When you try to update a Microsoft CRM activity task in Microsoft Office Outlook 2003, the activity task is not updated. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

This record is read-only in Microsoft CRM. Changes will not be synchronized to the Microsoft CRM system.

CAUSE

This problem may occur when the Use Cached Exchange Mode check box on the Advanced tab of the Microsoft Exchange Server dialog box for the e-mail account is selected in Outlook 2003.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section. This problem is scheduled to be corrected in Microsoft CRM 3.0.
