Error message when a user tries to connect from the Microsoft CRM client for Microsoft Office Outlook 1.2 to the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 server

SYMPTOMS

You upgrade the Microsoft Dynamics CRM server from version 1.2 to version 3.0. However, you do not upgrade the Microsoft CRM client for Microsoft Office Outlook for all users. In this case, when a user tries to connect directly from the Microsoft CRM client for Microsoft Office Outlook 1.2 to the Microsoft Dynamics CRM 3.0 server, they receive one of the following error messages:

Error message 1

Metadata Cache Error - No entity

Error message 2

Not Implemented error (80004001)

Error message 3

Unspecified error(80004005)

Error message 4

The Microsoft CRM server needs to be upgraded before the Microsoft CRM Outlook client can go online. Contact your system administrator for assistance.

Error message 5

The Microsoft CRM server needs to be upgraded before it can continue to be used. Microsoft CRM will be disabled in this client. Contact your system administrator for assistance.

This problem also occurs when a user clicks the Go Online button on a Microsoft CRM client for Microsoft Office Outlook 1.2.

CAUSE

When the Microsoft CRM client for Microsoft Office Outlook tries to access the Microsoft Dynamics CRM service, the major and minor server versions in the server registry are verified. If the server version is later than the client version, one of the error messages will be returned to indicate that the client version is outdated.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, the administrator must upgrade this Microsoft CRM client for Outlook before trying to connect to the Microsoft CRM server. All other Microsoft CRM clients for Outlook should also be upgraded. To perform the upgrade, follow the steps in the "Upgrade Microsoft CRM Client for Outlook" section of the Microsoft CRM 3.0 Implementation Guide.
