Error message when you run the initialization process in Microsoft CRM 1.2 Data Migration Framework: "Failed to migrate object"

SYMPTOMS

When you run the initialization process in Microsoft CRM 1.2 Data Migration Framework, the data in the cdf_MSCRM database does not migrate. Additionally, you receive the following error message:

Failed to migrate object:

Description: Data out of range
File: path\filename
Line: 340

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you use the Microsoft.Crm.DataMigration.InitializeCDF executable file to initialize the cdf_MSCRM database. If you have custom string fields in Microsoft CRM, custom fields are added to the extension tables in the cdf_MSCRM database. A custom field in the cdf_MSCRM database stores two times more data than the corresponding custom string field in the Microsoft CRM database. Because the custom fields in the cdf_MSCRM database store more data than the custom string fields in the Microsoft CRM database, the data cannot be migrated to Microsoft CRM 1.2.
